Amastropak is a non-profit NGO, was formed to gather together people who are ineterested in astronomy and to arrange events that may be of ineterest to the members and general public. In 1988 ,Amastropak arranged a symposium om Mars to commemorate the closest approach of Mars in 17 years. They also had symposiums on Supernova 1987A, Voyager's Neptune encounter, and 20th anniversary of Moon landing in 1989. In addition, the most popular activity was a star party. Every 3-4 months, interested people would go out to a darker site (in Sindh or near Hub Chowki in Baluchistan) for all night of star gazing. Members would bring whatever telescopes and binoculars they had, plus Suparco and Planetarium would provide us with their telescopes. In recent years, Amastropak has arranged public observations at the Planetarium and symposiums on Hubble Space Telescope, Mars Path Finder, Search for Life in the Universe, and recent discussions on MIR etc. Suparco, Planetarium, American Center etc. are more likely to help Amastropak, simply because of past relations. Similarly, inspite of its ups and downs, Amastropak has existed more or less for the past 13 years, and People in Karachi are more familiar with it. . Amastropak is always looking for people who are willing to spend some time on it.
